Some of the sweetest days with a baby happen far from your own kitchen. A warm bottle that comes along keeps them sweet.

Here is how to warm a baby bottle on the go, in the car, at the airport and out with the stroller.

Why is warming a bottle away from home harder?

At home, the kettle is a few steps away. Out in the world, there is no outlet, no counter, and a baby who has decided that waiting is not an option.

A flask of hot water starts cooling the moment you leave the house. What you want is heat you can make on demand, at the temperature you choose.

What is the easiest way to warm a bottle on the go?

A cordless warmer. The Stenviax Bottle Warmer Pro runs on a 14,000 mAh battery charged over USB-C, so it works anywhere you can carry a bag.

Pour milk or water into its 17 oz / 500 ml chamber and choose one of seven settings: 92, 95 or 98 °F for milk, and 98, 104, 110 or 122 °F for water. It beeps twice when it is ready, and you pour into any bottle your baby takes.

How do you warm a baby bottle in the car?

Warm the feed in a parked car, at a rest stop or before you pull away. Never reach into the back seat while you drive.

A cordless warmer does not need the engine running or a 12V socket, so the car never decides when your baby eats. Planning a long drive? Our road trip with a baby story has the full plan.

How do you warm a bottle on a plane?

Security comes first. TSA allows breast milk and formula in quantities over 3.4 oz in your carry-on; tell the officer at the start of screening.

Pack the warmer in your carry-on, empty and dry. Once you are through, pour in the milk you carried, or water for formula, and choose your setting. Our guide to flying with baby bottles covers the rules and the packing.

How do you warm a bottle on a stroller walk?

On foot, the only limit is what you want to carry. A compact cordless warmer rides in the stroller basket or a bag pocket, next to the bottle.

When your baby stirs, pour the feed in, choose your setting, and wait for the two beeps.

What should you pack for a feed on the go?

  • The warmer, fully charged.
  • The milk, or formula and water, measured for the feed.
  • Your baby's usual bottle to pour into.
  • A bag to carry the used bottle home.

Charge the warmer the evening before, the way you charge your phone. On the 45 W adapter in the box it goes from empty to full in about 50 minutes, and it holds up to 48 hours on standby.

Settle on one setting before you leave. If your baby takes 98 °F at home, keep 98 °F on the road.

How do you keep a feed safe away from home?

The rules travel with you. Once breast milk is warmed, the CDC says to use it within 2 hours, and never to refreeze milk that has thawed.

Never heat breast milk in a microwave. And always test a few drops on your wrist before the feed, whatever the display reads.

If the chamber is ever empty, the warmer stops and shows E2. Pour milk or water in and the code clears on its own. For temperatures and timing in more detail, read can you warm breast milk in a portable warmer.

Frequently asked questions

What's the fastest way to warm a bottle in the car?
Use a cordless warmer before you set off or in a parked car. The Stenviax Pro runs on its own battery and warms 4 oz of breast milk to 98 °F in about 70 seconds, measured from refrigerator temperature at a full charge.
Is it safe to warm a bottle while driving?
Warm the feed before the car is moving, or have a passenger do it. A cordless warmer that does not need the engine running makes it easy to prepare the feed before you set off.
How do I know the bottle isn't too hot?
Test a few drops on the inside of your wrist before every feed, whatever any display reads. The CDC recommends the same check.
Does the warmer fit my brand of bottle?
Yes, because no bottle goes inside it. The Stenviax Pro warms milk in its own 17 oz chamber, and you pour it into your own bottle, whatever the brand.
Do I need different equipment for the car and the stroller?
No. A cordless warmer works the same way in the car, on a stroller walk, at the park or at the airport.
